Project aims
This鈥痯roject will鈥痵upport the development of public, patient and community involvement (PPCI) in research at Warwick, recognising that developing robust systems and support for PPCI is vital to all four of Warwick's Research Culture Commitments.

Academics in all disciplines will be able to involve the public in their research, and to identify potential public contributors.

Members of the public involved in Warwick research will have a high quality, consistent experience of working with the university.

Research enablers at all levels and in all roles will have a clear set of guidance to follow to facilitate PPCI.

PGRs and ECRs will be better supported in their first endeavours to work with members of the public.

Warwick researchers will continue to be able to apply for external funding (e.g. NIHR) that is reliant on an institution-wide set of policies and practices for PPCI.

Attendees of Warwick鈥檚 public engagement events will have a clear pathway to research involvement, should they be inspired to do so.
Project deliverables

Warwick-wide meeting(s) of key staff delivering, or interested in, PPCI at Warwick to scope needs鈥痑nd priorities for a Warwick PPCI strategy and infrastructure.

Establishment of a steering group including public contributors.鈥�

Development of an institution-wide strategy for PPCI.鈥�

Creation of a database and public facing website/portal with a form for PPCI recruitment.鈥��

Scoping current practice at Warwick, unmet training needs, gaps in coordination and any unique needs across departments.鈥�

Training and resource development for researchers and public contributors.

Relationship development with local communities, charities, (grass roots) organisations, regional鈥痵takeholders鈥痑nd NHS partners (including events to heighten visibility of the project).鈥�

Evaluation of the year鈥檚 activities leading into a plan for sustainable support for PPCI from January 2027 onwards.鈥�
Strategy development
A steering group made up of Warwick staff, colleagues from other organisations, and public contributors, will steer the development of an institution-wide strategy for Public, Patient and Community Involvement and Engagement (PPCIE).Learning from the wider sector

Internal consultatation

- What challenges have researchers faced working with public contributors? Do they differ across departments, career stages or funders?
- Who/what are the research enablers that can make PPCI in research at the 天美传媒 a success?
- What external organisations do we need to connect with to make PPCI in research at the 天美传媒 a success? How can we support involvement of underserved populations?
- What do you think you might need to effectively involve the public in research?
- If the university were to meet this need, what might that look like?
Steering group

- Looking at the Warwick Medical School PPIE strategy,which elements are relevant to an institution-wide strategy?
- Are there any themes or areas you feel are missing in the WMS strategy but are important to your faculty/department/centre/section or the people or organisation you represent?
