The University has just signed an agreement with Lloyds Banking Group to provide support for 15 home undergraduate students a year from low income backgrounds.

A signing ceremony was held on 12th June, in Lloyds鈥� Gresham Street offices in London, with Ant贸nio Horta-Os贸rio, Group Chief Executive of Lloyds Banking Group and the Vice-Chancellor of Warwick Professor Nigel Thrift.

Professor Thrift said:

鈥淟loyds鈥� support is doubly welcome as it not only provides funding for students from low income backgrounds to study at a great University, it also provides them with a range of powerful opportunities that will help them find a great career.鈥�

Lloyd鈥檚 now offer this support at a total of six Universities: Edinburgh, UCL, Oxford, Warwick, Bristol and Sheffield.

Ant贸nio Horta-Os贸rio, chief executive of Lloyds Banking Group, said:

"When we launched the Lloyds Scholars pilot last year we gave a commitment to grow the programme and expand to more of the UK鈥檚 top universities. Tonight we are celebrating the expansion of the Lloyds Scholars programme from two to six of the very best universities in Britain.鈥�

"We have developed the programme to give undergraduates all-round professional and vocational experience. We also ask our Scholars to volunteer in their local communities during the academic year to support the Group's wider commitment to support UK communities."

Lloyds will provide 15 scholarships each year, starting from October 2012, for students from low income background worth up 拢17,000 to each student during their time at Warwick. The scholarships will consist of an annual cash bursary, additional annual awards based on academic achievement, opportunities for the best performers to receive end of course awards, a guaranteed ten week paid internship, and mentoring from Lloyds staff and ongoing local and national cohort activities. Successful scholars will also be invited to join Lloyds鈥� graduate leadership programme. In return the scholars must give 100 hours of their time per year to volunteering in their local community.
