MultiDiv 2026
From 22 June to 10 July, 14 students from Warwick (UW), VUB, Ca' Foscari (UNIVE), UniAndes, NOVA Lisbon, and Vietnam National University (VNU) participated in the Multilingualism & Diversity (MultiDiv) course. This innovative cross-university module, which has been running since 2019, gives students an opportunity to design and carry out a small-scale original research project on Multilingualism, typically from a Linguistic Landscape angle. The module is led by Professor Jo Angouri and includes contributions from guests lecturers and partners, such as Professor Ann Peeters from the VUB.
Student teams presented their work in progress at the EUTOPIA Multilingualism Student Conference, which gathered 66 students and staff from EUTOPIA and beyond on 8 July 2026. The conference, which also included original research presentations from 17 students from VUB, UNIVE, UBB, UW, Stellenbosch, and Vietnam National University, was a success. Everyone enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the fact that it is an event for students, organised by students.
MultiDiv teams presented their finalised projects to their peers and teachers on 10 July. Topics included libraries, the #MeToo movement, university graffiti, and the framing of refugees in the media. The MultiDiv participants found the course intellectually stimulating and rewarding. They will go onto translating their findings as a blog. You can see examples of previous research projects carried out by MultiDiv students on the MITN website.
