To make the start of your studies as smooth as possible, the University and Department offer a wide spectrum of general online information and personalised advice. Formal and informal social inductions will be held for new incoming students at the start of each academic year. Details will be communicated to new students in the run up to the new academic year.

History Induction

New students will have their formal induction in the first Graduate Research Forum (GRF)Link opens in a new window meeting in week 1. Details of the day, time and location will be circulated to all new students in early September.

An informal social induction with current PGR students will also be held in week 1 after the first GRF, details will be communicated via email to new students in September, and added to the PGR Social EventsLink opens in a new window page

It is important that you are equipped with the necessary skills to fulfil your full potential and, where you identify gaps, that you know how to fill them by attending internal and occasionally external training. You will be asked at the start of your studies to complete a baseline survey of your existing skills and to identify what additional ones you might need. You can then discuss these with your supervisor(s) and follow the links on the form to help find the support you need, though we will also be on hand to guide you through the University's offerings.

In addition, we will ask all continuing students to complete a shorter form each year so that you can ensure that you are fully equipped for all the tasks of the year ahead.

The Doctoral College has a range of useful induction videos, covering Library services, IT Services, Wellbeing and Professional Development (and more).

CADRE Induction

Year 1 students are encouraged to take part in CADRE's development and training workshopsLink opens in a new window across the year, particularly the term 1 induction sessions.

Study Spaces

There are student study spaces in many of the buildings across campus, for details see the facilitiesLink opens in a new window page.

IDG Computer work areas are available across Gibbet Hill, Westwood, and the main campus. All students and staff can use these (you鈥檒l need your university card to access them).

The History Society

With over 800 members, (HistSoc) is one of the largest and best-known societies on campus renowned for its socials, ball, tour, incredibly popular sports teams and impressive academic support! Socials are a big part of their identity with termly HistSoc nights out on and off-campus. They look to support their members academically through essay workshops, module fairs, guest speakers and the newly developed mentor scheme.

IT Facilities and Training

IT Account

Students are advised to review the Information and Digital Group (IDG) Student Induction pages for information on setting up IT accounts, and details of training resources.

If you need help or support with registering for your IT Account or any other queries, please use the , or phone 024 765 73737 or ext. 73737 (internally). The Service Desk is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

For in-person support visit the Drop-in Centre, located on the , which is available from Monday to Friday, 09:30 to 16:30.

Tabula

Tabula is used for the administration of your course. You will use Tabula to:

• View your student profile and supervisor details
• Record supervision meetings

Recording Studios

For any students interested in video or audio recording, a number of are available to book on campus. Rapidmooc is a video recording service at Warwick implemented and supported by the Audio Visual and FOLD Teams.

Made up of 'plug and play' dedicated video recording hardware with a studio green screen setup and adjustable lighting, they allow for the creation of professional quality video for blended and online learning, interviews, training and tutorials.

LinkedIn Learning

General IT training resources are available via LinkdIn Learning. This online digital learning platform features over 20,000+ expert-led courses across a vast range of topics spanning business, technology, software and creative skills, wellbeing, personal development and much more.
