Come along to this short workshop and learn how to find and use the Library resources that will help you get started with your studies. The Library contains millions of resources and this can feel overwhelming at first - this session will help you to get ahead, building your confidence in finding materials on your reading list, and in searching for academic resources on the Library catalogue. You’ll also come away with information about the specialist support and guidance available for you from the Library.

Come and see some of the treasures in Warwick’s archives and special collections with a tour of the Modern Records Centre.

In the heart of campus and open to all, this 25-30 minute tour will show you some of the behind-the-scenes stores and finish with a selection of rare books and archives. Tours will run every thirty minutes from 11am-3pm. Please note that although most of the tour is on one floor and accessible, one of the MRC strongrooms is down two flights of stairs. This part can be optional.

The Library is often called the heart of the University, and it is one of the places that every single student will likely need at some point. Get ahead of the curve by dropping in and gaining some vital information to help you utilise everything the Library has to offer – from physical books to e-resources, textbooks to fiction, studying spaces to relaxing spaces, we have it all.

Research Data Management (RDM) is vitally important for the success of a research project and is becoming increasingly important with major funding bodies, such as UKRI, the Wellcome Trust and Horizon Europe.

This session will introduce some key concepts, including the research data lifecycle, funder and institution requirements, and Data Management Plans (DMPs). We will then move on to practical advice for researchers on day-to-day RDM best practice, incorporating introductory advice on file management, data repositories and the use of AI with research data.

Please note that this is a hybrid session held jointly in the Library ⁠Seminar Room 222 and on Microsoft Teams.

Open Research refers to a set of practices that aims to make the constituent parts of the research process as ‘open’ (accessible, sharable, reproducible) as possible to demonstrate the research's quality, integrity and reproducibility. Sometimes referred to as ‘Open Science’ or ‘Open Scholarship’, open research can touch every part of your projects, everything from the decisions you make while planning projects, to how to collect and manage your research data and software to peer review, publication and promotion. Whatever form it takes, Open Research has benefits for academia, it benefits the public good, and it has benefits for individual researchers.

Nevertheless, Open Research can mean different things to different subjects and different researchers and it is not always easy for researchers to know how and to what extent they can engage with these ‘open’ practices in their research. In this session, we will explore the research cycle through the lens of Open Research culture to consider the different ways you can make your research ‘open’.

Whether you are an enthusiastic adopter of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, have serious objections, or are somewhere in between, AI is increasingly embedded in research infrastructure, from library search tools and reference managers, to writing and analysis.

This session will help you to navigate this landscape by exploring what it means to use AI critically: making informed, ethical, and transparent decisions about whether, when, and how AI tools might support your research. It will consider questions that arise at different stages of the research process, from articulating research goals, to conducting an AI-assisted search or engaging with an AI assistant, evaluating their outputs and documenting and acknowledging their use.
