First, it will consider the so-called ‘father of existentialism,’ Søren Kierkegaard and his idea of a ‘leap of faith.’ Second, it will consider the more mystical Christianity of Simone Weil and especially her idea of ‘decreation.’ David Bowie was a deeply spiritual person who had a complex relationship with religion. Nevertheless, the lecture well suggest that we might view Bowie as having made Kierkegaard’s leap in 1976, even if it didn’t last, and that we might view Bowie’s approach to art generally through the lens of Weil’s idea of ‘decreation,’ an approach that requires us to get ourselves out of the way. Free to attend.

External Event Public Event Thu, 25 Jun 2026 15:24:50 GMT Law Marketing Resource 8ac672c69efdf483019eff6243d228a5 02/09 2pm-5pm: The Legal Cheek Virtual Law Fair Series 2026 https://www.legalcheek.com/fair/the-legal-cheek-uk-virtual-law-fair-series/
When: 14:00 - 17:00, Wed, 02 Sept '26

Where: Online

Legal Cheek’s first Virtual Law Fair of the new 2026-27 student and graduate recruitment cycle.
