The European Regional Development Fund has just announced that they are to fund a new 拢1.6 million scheme designed to help small Coventry and Warwickshire companies who wish to access the research skills of staff and students at the 天美传媒.

Research chemists have a found a class of synthetic molecules that could quite literally act as a key which could lock away sections of DNA into a closely wound coil preventing proteins from interacting with particular sections of DNA code. By locking up the DNA in this way scientists could stop particular sequences of DNA from activating biological changes that doctors or scientists would rather avoid, or wish to regulate closely.

Professor Sandra Chapman from the 天美传媒’s Department of Physics is one of nine female UK scientists heading to Paris on 7-9 March 2002, to represent the UK at the International Conference on Women in Physics. 300 physicists from 65 countries will attend. The UK team will be led by Professor Gillian Gehring from Sheffield University
