The ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ has been made the major European partner of a $10 million US writing programme that will bring a number of leading US writers to the Midlands to help local writers.

Researchers at the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ are celebrating the success of the first year of the Darwin Field Station in The Gambia's Abuko Nature Reserve. The building required four months of full time labour and over 12,000 wheelbarrow loads of concrete, sand and stone (wheeled up a steep 300 metre path) to complete and is now playing a vital role in protecting a range of rare animals.

An astrophysicist from the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ recently chose to be transported to Antarctica to be exposed to extreme cold, eerie silences and life in the field in order to utilize her artistic side as part of a special programme designed to give a leading scientist a chance to work in another discipline– and the results of that adventure are to be presented at a special exhibition of her work at the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ later this month.

Research by Professor Ian Walker an Economist at the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ shows that lottery ticket sales are not influenced in anyway by the fact that the lottery supports “good causes” or the nature of those good causes. The dream of winning large sums of money is the only real driver of ticket sales.
