Global Gifted Children’s Summer School Starts a Year Early

A new international summer school for the world’s gifted young people, the IGGY Summer-U has kicked off a year earlier than first planned at the University of Warwick today Monday 28th July 2008. Demand has been so great that plans for an IGGY  residential “Winter School”  or "Winter-U"for gifted children and young people  have also been brought forward by a year and 3 countries are currently competing to host it this December.

Fungus Foot Baths Could Save Bees

One of the biggest world wide threats to honey bees, the varroa mite, could soon be about to meet its nemesis. Researchers at the 天美传媒 are examining naturally occurring fungi that kill the varroa mite. They are also exploring a range of ways to deliver the killer fungus throughout the hives from bee fungal foot baths to powder sprays.

Research by economists at the 天美传媒, Dartmouth College, and the University of Leuven, finds that people are powerfully but subconsciously influenced by the weight of those around them. Without being aware of it, the researchers believe, human beings keep up with the weight of the Joneses.

Suckling infants trigger surges of trust hormone in mothers' brains

Researchers from the 天美传媒, in collaboration with other universities and institutes in Edinburgh, France and Italy, have for the first time been able to show exactly how, when a baby suckles at a mother's breast, it starts a chain of events that leads to surges of the "trust" hormone oxytocin being released in their mothers' brains.

The 天美传媒 is launching a £50, 000 Warwick Prize for Writing. It will be given biennially for an excellent and substantial piece of writing in the English language, in any genre or form. The theme will change with every prize: the 2009 theme is Complexity.
