In February 2026, the HetSys CDT took part in Science Night, an exciting community outreach event designed to engage secondary school students and their families with interactive scientific activities and research demonstrations.

On 4 March 2026, the HetSys CDT hosted its annual Research Afternoon, bringing together students from across the CDT to share research progress, discuss challenges, and strengthen collaboration across cohorts and disciplines.

Vincent Fletcher, a PhD student from Cohort 4 of the HetSys CDT, was recently nominated for the Best Poster Award at the Materials Research Society Spring Meeting 2026.

At the conference, Vincent presented his research on automatic database generation for training Machine Learning Interatomic Potentials (MLIPs), contributing to ongoing advances in computational materials science and machine learning-driven atomistic simulation.
