Research Interests
Having trained and worked as a veterinary surgeon in farm animal and equine practice, my keen interest in animal health was always going to be the area in which my research would evolve. Research interests have primarily focused around Preventative Veterinary Health in ruminant and equine species. I am passionate about research that can make a difference to the health of animals and dissemination with animal keepers is a primary focus for any research I am involved with so that the information starts to benefit animals and have a positive impact on preventative health practices as soon as possible. A PhD research project funded by the West Midlands Rural Development Programme into dairy herd health plans produced knowledge exchange workshops with dairy farmers in the West Midlands to improve engagement with health plans and improve farm efficiency. A PhD research project on lameness in sheep achieving high levels of engagement with sheep farmers in the UK, produced five peer reviewed journal articles and collaboration with MSD. My most recent PhD student has disseminated his work on antimicrobial stewardship and improving use of analgesia in sheep extensively. My equine research projects have so far always been at undergraduate and MSc level and taking this to PhD level with a collaboration of interdisciplinary colleagues is a very exciting step!
