I am a Mathematics PhD student and a GTA, having previously completed my undergraduate degree at Warwick. I am very engaged with student voice, as a former SSLC Chair and current Faculty Rep, and have contributed to discussions and projects on teaching, research and EDI. During my WIHEA Fellowship, I will bring insights from my experiences of both sides of the teaching relationship at Warwick and ensure that student voices from all levels are heard. Furthermore, I will draw on my lived experience as a disabled student to contribute to projects relating to inclusion, and to expand on my previous work around disability, neurodivergence and accessibility, with a focus on postgraduate experiences.
In the first year of my WIHEA Fellowship, I led the Inclusive Transitions to Postgraduate Research Study project, funded by WIHEA, and I plan to continue this work during my extension.
Amir Cheshmehzangi
PhD in Engineering, Warwick Manufacturing Group
I am a researcher and educator with a strong interest in inclusive education, innovative assessment and the meaningful integration of AI into teaching and learning.
Over the past year, my involvement in the WIHEA AI Learning Circle and related workshops has encouraged me to reflect critically on my teaching and assessment practices. In particular, these experiences have influenced how I approach AI, viewing it as an opportunity to rethink assessment rather than simply a challenge to address. This has strengthened my focus on designing meaningful learning experiences that encourage critical thinking, reflection and student ownership, ensuring that students leave each module with demonstrable knowledge and transferable skills. I particularly value the opportunities WIHEA provides for exchanging ideas, learning from colleagues across disciplines and challenging established practices. This year, I look forward to building on these connections, contributing to Learning Circles and exploring how AI and innovative assessment can further enhance student learning and development.
