GSD PhD student presents paper at DSA Conference 2026
Hadijah Namyalo鈥慓anafa, a PhD researcher in Global Sustainable Development funded by the Leverhulme Trust TRANSFORM Doctoral Scholarships, recently presented her work at the Development Studies Association (DSA) Conference 2026 at the University College Dublin, Ireland.
Successful Funding Award for Dr Maurice Beseng to Advance Sustainable Coastal Livelihoods
Dr Maurice Beseng has secured 拢25,000 from the Participatory Research Fund to expand his innovative work on the participatory co鈥憁anagement of Abandoned, Lost or Discarded Fishing Gear (ALDFG) in Cameroon. The award recognises his leadership in tackling one of the most pressing yet under鈥慳ddressed environmental challenges affecting coastal communities.

How Liberal Arts got me to where I am: Frances鈥� story
Our Liberal Arts programme equips students with the essential skills valued by employers across diverse industries, as demonstrated by the wide range of careers our graduates pursue. Frances joined our first ever cohort of Liberal Arts students in 2016, and her final dissertation on improving sustainability in healthcare helped towards securing her role as a Net Zero Strategy Analyst for NHS England. We caught up with Frances to recount more of her experiences as an undergraduate, and how she believes a 2,000-year-old discipline like Liberal Arts is still relevant for helping students develop skills sought out by modern employers.

Liberal Arts welcomes new Head of Department as Dr Bryan Brazeau receives promotion
The Head of our Liberal Arts department Dr Bryan Brazeau has now completed his tenure as departmental lead; a responsibility which he has held since 2021. He has now passed on the mantle to Dr William Rupp, who has been an Associate Professor in the Liberal Arts department for four years.
