Routes and Pathways (BA)

Our Routes and Pathways

Our Liberal Arts BA offers you flexibility and focus, supporting you to study the subjects, topics, and ideas that interest you.

Interested in a specific subject area? You can choose to follow one of our Disciplinary Routes.

Interested in pursuing ideas across different subjects? Design your own Specialist Pathway.

From the beginning of your studies, we'll work with you to choose a selection of subjects and modules that gives you the skills and knowledge to explore what matters most to you. We'll guide and support you every step of the way.

Disciplinary Routes

On a Route, at least 25% of your degree will be focused on modules in your chosen subject area from one of our partner departments.

Alongside your Route modules, you'll also study Liberal Arts modules to support your development as an interdisciplinary thinker and learner, and can also choose to take modules in subjects across the University.

Your degree title will recognise your chosen Route, e.g., Bachelor of Arts (with Honours) in Liberal Arts with Economics, or "...with Classics", or "with Law".

A disciplinary Route enables you to develop expertise in a subject area that you're passionate about.

Specialist Pathway

On a Specialist Pathway, you build your own degree by combining modules from different subject areas across the University.

Your degree title will be Bachelor of Arts (with Honours) in Liberal Arts. Your Pathway will be shown on your personalised Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR).

A Specialist Pathway enables you to explore topics and ideas that you're passionate about across different subject areas.

Examples of Specialist Pathways designed by our graduates include:

Apocalyptic Studies

Black British Studies

Critical Sports Studies

Health and Human Society

Social Justice

Visual Cultures

The pathway titles listed above were designed by individual students in collaboration with their personal tutors. You are free to pursue your interests, whatever they might be. If one of the above pathway titles does not reflect your passions and goals, we will help you design one that meets your needs.

Support with your choice

We will work closely with you when choosing your route or pathway. Your personal tutor will guide you to choose modules within your chosen area to ensure that your degree is best suited to your interests and future ambitions. You'll be guided and supported at each step of the way as you make your decision, and you can change your decision throughout the degree.

Preparing for your future

Routes and pathways are a unique benefit of the Liberal Arts degree at Warwick; if you are unsure of what you want to do when picking your degree, you can use your first year to explore different subjects before later tailoring your Liberal Arts degree towards your discovered passion or chosen career path.
