PGR Progression

The University requires that student progress is reviewed annually for all postgraduate research students.

Each year this process requires the student to submit written work, and the supervisor and the student to complete a Progress Review Form. Students in their first year of study (Year two if part-time) will be assessed for their Upgrade from MPhil status to full doctoral status, whilst students in Years 2, 3 and 4 (Years 4 and 6 part-time) will be assessed by the departmental Annual Review process.

Please note that M4C students have separate processes.

Upgrades

All students reading for a PhD are initially registered for the degree of MPhil. Your progress is monitored over the first year (or first two years in the case of part-time students), during which it is expected you will complete the upgrade to doctoral registration (Confirmation of Status).

Annual Reviews

Full-time students in intermediate years will be assessed by the departmental Annual Review Panel.

Completing this process is a requirement.

Students who fail to submit their progress update forms when requested to do so, or who fail to attend a progress review interview without good reason, may be reported to the University鈥檚 Academic Office for inadequate engagement.

M4C students

M4C-funded students have their own upgrade and review process administered by the M4C. Completion of this will be accepted by the department so that you do not have to undergo two parallel processes. The details of the M4C scheme can be found As M4C mid-year reviews do not require an Ethical Review, all M4C students should complete the Departmental History PGR Ethical Review formLink opens in a new window and submit the signed form to pghistoryoffice@warwick.ac.uk in order to have their MPhil to PhD officially actioned.

M4C-funded students have their own timetable for Annual Reviews. This process is administered by M4C and overseen by CADRE. Successful completion of the M4C mid-year review will be accepted by the department, so you do not have to duplicate the review processes.
