What Happens Next?
Click on the current month (or scroll down) to see what you should be doing:
December | January | February | March | April | May | June | July | August | September
December - January
- The History Department will communicate outcomes of applications to you directly via email.
- Think carefully about whether you wish to take up your Year Abroad offer. Discuss it with your friends and family, and research the visa regulations, the financial implications, and (if applicable) the language requirements of the institution you have been offered.
- Confirm whether or not you wish to accept your place by the deadline Friday Week 1 of Term 2.
- Respond quickly to instructions and emails from both the History department and the Student Mobility Office regarding your application to your host institution. The deadlines for these applications will vary according to the institution.
February - April:
- Work on your application to your host institution. The Student Mobility Office will help you with this, but it is your responsibility to check that you have completed all forms and met all deadlines. If you have questions about the forms, you can attend a Student Mobility drop-in session.
- Ensure you attend a Student Mobility Pre-departure Presentation. If you cannot attend any of these presentations, go to a drop-in session to get the information you missed.
- Review a copy of the History Department pre-departure Presentation and the Year Abroad Handbook(see above) to remind you of the details.
- As part of your application, you will be choosing modules for your time abroad. Check the guidance on credit loads and module options, and if you aren't sure you're meeting the criteria, send your list to the Director of International Mobility
for approval before submitting it to your host institution. Be aware that your choices at this stage are only indicative and are likely to change. You may want to meet with the Director of International Mobility to discuss your options. - Get in touch with other History students going to the same university, country, or region as you. You will be able to support each other through the application process, and while you are away.
- Talk to History staff who have knowledge of the country you are going to.
May
- Finalise your application to your host institution, if you haven't already
- Begin the process of applying for your visa (if applicable) as soon as you receive the appropriate paperwork from your host institution. If you plan to travel in-country before your time at your host institution begins, check with your host institution in case this creates any visa problems (especially for the USA). Note that visa processing times for the USA and Canada, in particular, are becoming longer, so don't delay.
- Work hard for all of your final essays and exams! Remember that you need to maintain an average of 60% and complete all assessments before you depart. If for any reason you think this might not be the case (e.g. mitigating circumstances, or you miss an exam) please contact the Director of International Mobility as soon as possible.
June
- Finalise your application to your host institution, if you haven't already
- Make sure you have applied for your Student Finance for next year, including getting your Course Abroad Form signed for the additional grant if required
- Erasmus+ Students- make sure you complete all necessary forms for your grant
July - September
- Once you have received confirmation that you can proceed, depart for your Year Abroad!
- Email historyoffice@warwick.ac.uk to confirm that you have arrived safely.
- For all information you might need while abroad, see the information for Students Currently on a Year Abroad.
- Please remember you still have 天美传媒 monitoring points to meet while you are away - you can review these on Tabula and act accordingly.
